Topic: What Sin Does to a Christian – Spiritual Death
Focus Scripture – What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your vain? (I Cor. 6:19)
I speak this week on the effects of sin on a believer. Since we are not no longer our own, we cannot do as we please. We are now members in the body of Christ. Becoming a member does not mean we are giving up something. We do have freedom of choice and no longer under the bondage to sin which is destructive to our lives. The Bible says, “…Verily, verily I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.” (John 8:34)
We need to remember that sin is destructive.
So what does the Bible say regarding submitted believers?
Rom. 6:18 – “Being then made free from sin, ye become the servants of righteousness.”
As believers we are set free from the destructive results of sin; the penalty of sin, which is death. Below are listed seven things of sin which affect the life of a believer’s life. Each item has scripture that identifies this behavior.
- SIN SEPARATES US FROM THE FELLOWSHIP OF GOD –Isaiah 59:2
- SIN WILL DESTROY THE JOY OF OUR SALVATION- Psalm 51:12
- SIN WILL BRING THE CHASTENING HAND OF GOD- Hebrews 12:6
- SIN CAN BRING PREMATURE DEATH- I Cor.5:5
- SIN CAUSES GOD TO TAKE AWAY SOME THINGS- II Sam. 12:14
- SIN TAKES AWAY ONES TESTIMONY AND OPPORTUNITY TO GLORIFY THE LORD- John 15: 2, 8
- SIN STOPS A CHRISTIAN FROM MATURING- Phil. 4:13
In our Bible Study these scriptures along with other verses are explained fuller in detail. That is why it is so important to join a Bible Study group for knowledge and edification. To grow in the Word of God, the capacity to gain knowledge is a critical element in being successful. Unfortunately, there is too much information to place in this limited space.
These lessons are a summary of discussions and dialogue among the attending individuals. My objective is to cover as much of information during the session.
Other options are available for contact such as, our website, church Facebook page, and even twitter to communicate.
You can also “contact us” with some questions that may surface while reviewing the lessons. Of course, I extend the welcome mat to join us at the church on Wednesday nights, 7-8:30 pm.
